Our Power & Renewables team is deeply embedded in this transition, supporting clients as they navigate the challenges and opportunities of delivering reliable, sustainable energy across the globe.
With a track record spanning the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, we advise on the full lifecycle of power projects – from early-stage development and financing through to construction, operation and exit.

We advise across the full range of technologies, including conventional thermal generation (such as gas-fired), wind, solar, hydro, battery storage, nuclear and independent water and power projects (IWPPs), as well as emerging and hybrid solutions.
Our clients include utilities, independent power producers, developers, funds, governments and financial institutions. We are known for our commercial approach, technical understanding and ability to deliver clear, actionable advice in a fast-changing sector.
"The Simmons & Simmons team have quick reactions and an in-depth approach based on rich experience. They are thorough, solve complicated matters and propose the most appropriate solutions."

We advise on complex, cross-border M&A and joint ventures across the power and renewables sector. Our team supports clients through all stages of transactions, including structuring, due diligence, negotiation and obtaining regulatory approvals. We are experienced in high-value deals involving major energy platforms and portfolios and are recognised for delivering clear, commercial advice on cross border transactions in complex, highly regulated and rapidly evolving markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
We have broad expertise covering project finance, contracts for differences, power purchase agreements, fuel supply agreements and the financing, construction and operation of power projects and distribution systems. Our team acts for sponsors, private sector debt providers, funds, governments, regulators, contractors, operators, ECAs and DFI/IFI debt providers and advises on all aspects of finance, construction, supply and operation contracts.
Our experience includes advising on licensing, the establishment of power projects and distribution systems, electricity trading arrangements, power derivatives and all forms of regulatory compliance. We also advise on government support agreements, bilateral investment treaties and the institutional infrastructure for investment in the power and renewables sectors.
We help clients to structure projects and contracts to minimise the risk of disputes and to manage issues early, and we advise on arbitration and litigation when disputes do arise. We have a strong track record in managing disputes arising from power and renewables projects, including contractual, regulatory and cross border issues.
