Basil is a Partner in the firm’s Disputes & Investigations group, specialising in international arbitration. He has over 15 years of experience advising clients in a range of sectors, including financial institutions, asset managers and funds, institutional investors, and energy, commodities and manufacturing companies.

Basil has advised on disputes under all the main institutional rules (including LCIA, ICC, SIAC and HKIAC) and in ad hoc arbitrations (including under the UNCITRAL Rules). His practice covers both commercial arbitration and investor-State disputes.

Basil also advises on the management of contentious risks in transactions, including the sale and purchase of Private Assets, the wind down of funds, the performance and/or termination of substantial contracts, and investor-State treaty structuring.

Basil is recognised as a leader in international arbitration by Chambers & Partners, Lexology (formerly Who’s Who Legal) and Legal 500.

Basil is also a member of the firm’s contentious Environmental, Social and Governance team. He regularly advises on disputes relating to renewable energy projects and raising other ESG issues. Many of his matters involve international sanctions. Basil previously worked as a corporate social responsibility consultant, providing insights into the broader ESG policy landscape.
