Overview
Capital Markets Union (CMU) is a long-standing objective of the European Union and is at the heart of the single market. The objectives of CMU are to help businesses tap into more diverse sources of funding (away from a dependence on bank lending), make markets work more efficiently and offer investors and savers more opportunities to invest in a wider class of assets. The European Commission published its CMU Action Plan on 30 September 2015. It sets out the building blocks for putting an integrated Capital Markets Union, encompassing all Member States, into place by 2019.
