Peter Lee is a recognised expert in AI Governance, with deep expertise at the intersection of law, technology, and responsible AI. He is a Partner in our Wavelength and AI groups, and leads Simmons & Simmons’ pioneering AI Governance advisory practice, heading a multidisciplinary team of specialists in law, regulation, artificial intelligence, data science, legal engineering, standards, ethics, and operations. Peter is dedicated to helping organisations navigate the complex legal, ethical, and governance challenges of AI, serving as a trusted global advisor in this dynamic field. He also leads on projects using technology, data science and design to improve legal functions and analysis for clients.

Peter is a contributing author to The Law of Artificial Intelligence (Sweet & Maxwell), the leading practitioner’s guide on AI and the law, and is a frequent speaker and writer at international conferences. He is engaged in research into Responsible AI and Industry 5.0 at the University of Cambridge, and is interested in advancing thought leadership in AI Governance, Responsible AI, and the evolving relationship between law and technology.

His career has been defined by innovation and leadership, including co-founding Wavelength, the world’s first regulated legal engineering firm, which was acquired by Simmons & Simmons in 2019. With 25 years of experience leading multidisciplinary teams, over 15 years as a technology lawyer, and more than a decade working in AI, Peter is widely regarded as the ‘original legal engineer’ and a key figure in establishing legal engineering as a profession.
