International law firm Simmons & Simmons has launched a unique AI law internship in the UK, aimed both at future lawyers and students with a strong interest in technology.

Simmons’ intensive two-week internship will give students opportunities in both tech-focused and legal AI roles in the firm’s thriving AI team – one of the leading AI practices in the profession.

Interns will work in London alongside Simmons’ top-ranked international AI experts on cutting-edge AI projects shaping the future of AI law and governance, as well as AI enablement and transformation. The programme is aimed at enhancing students’ technical and legal skills, and will enable them to learn about the latest AI tools.

Applications for the AI Internship will open on 15 October, with eight places available for a programme starting in April 2026. The programme is open to those in their penultimate year and final year of an undergraduate course, as well as postgraduate students and graduates. It is particularly aimed at those studying law, STEM subjects and other relevant postgraduate courses. Opportunities for a future role at the firm will be open to outstanding individuals on the programme.

Peter Lee, Partner and AI Governance Lead, said: “The legal profession and the industries we operate in are rapidly evolving with the development and wide adoption of generative AI, so it’s essential we equip aspiring lawyers and technology enthusiasts with the right technical skills and experience. Simmons’ new AI internship is a truly unique opportunity; we’re very excited to welcome the next generation of talent in the spring.”

Minesh Tanna, Partner and Global AI Lead, commented: “This is the only dedicated AI internship of its kind in the UK – offering young professionals a rare opportunity to work at the heart of a law firm with world-class expertise in both AI law and governance, and legal technology. This is all about developing the pipeline of future talent, but we also want to inspire students and make them aware of the many varied and incredibly exciting career paths in AI in the legal profession.”
