Ed is Head of our Dispute Resolution and Investigations practice in the Middle East. A Commercial Disputes partner and CEDR Accredited Mediator, with over 30 years’ experience, Ed acts for clients across a range of sectors including Wholesale and Private Banking, Private Wealth, Asset Management and Investment Funds, Real Estate Finance, Health & Life Sciences, Defence and Aviation. Ed has a particular focus on financial, commercial and civil fraud claims arising from or into the UAE, Switzerland and CIS. He is regularly instructed to conduct internal investigations into FS regulatory and suspected corrupt payments issues.
Ed has been a leading voice for the disputes profession both in the UK and now the Middle East. Ed was elected President of the London Solicitors Litigation Association in 2016, an association which represents the interests of over 3500 litigation solicitors. In that capacity, Ed was responsible for driving civil procedural reforms affecting the Business & Property Courts in England & Wales, working alongside members of the judiciary, including the Shorter and Flexible Trials Scheme (STS) in 2016 and the new rules on Disclosure (Practice Direction 57AD) in 2019, which now apply to the majority of commercial cases proceeding in the Business & Property Courts.
In 2018, Ed was elected Council Member for the Law Society of England & Wales (representing the City of London), and was a committee member of the City of London Law Society. He is regularly invited to speak and chair industry conferences on a range of topics of substantive and professional interest.
Ed has been ranked by the legal directories as a "Leading Partner" for Civil Fraud, Tier 1 and described as "a star litigator" "client-focused and a highly experienced litigator with great judgement" "who combines excellent knowledge of the law with a real understanding of the commercial drivers of cases"
Ed qualified as a solicitor in 1997 and joined Simmons & Simmons in 2012, having previously worked at Clifford Chance and one other leading City firm.
