Javier is part of the insurance and dispute resolution team in our Madrid office. He has nineteen years’ experience in providing insurance companies with legal assistance in handling claims of a wide variety of risks. As a litigator, he handles dispute resolution claims at Spanish Courts, and acts in both national and international arbitration.
He regularly works for the Spanish local market, as well as for the London, French, and other markets.
He is specialised in Property, Energy and Construction claims involving coverage disputes, damages assessment proceedings, subrogated recovery claims, and cross border claims. He also provides legal advice and assistance to insurance professionals in a wide diversity of fields.
Furthermore, he has also an extensive background as litigator in handling Property & Casualty claims related to a wide variety of corporate risks, including disputes based on both contractual liability and tort law. Particularly, he has been involved in construction risks including CAR/EAR policies, latent defects, architects/engineers/surveyors PI, Product liability, Public Liability and Employers Liability.
Javier is recommended lawyer by the Legal 500 EMEA in “Insurance”, for 2022 and 2021 editions, and by Best Lawyers for “Construction” for the 2023 edition.
He is member of the International Association of Insurance Law, Spanish Branch (SEAIDA), being focused on Climate Change Risks’ analysis. He is also member of the Liability and Insurance Section from the Madrid Bar Association.
