Edwin van der Velde is a supervising associate in the Amsterdam office of Simmons & Simmons LLP. He represents clients in national and international disputes and specialises in complex civil litigation. His expertise includes commercial disputes, financial liability, intellectual property, parallel trade, competition, general tort claims, defamation, seizures and unfair commercial practices.

Edwin has worked on a range of high‑profile international litigation matters, including:

  • defending fintech companies and crypto exchanges against financial liability claims;
  • defending parallel trading companies against trade mark infringement claims;
  • representing banks and life sciences companies in follow‑on competition claims;
  • assisting a well‑known car brand in defending and maintaining its trade mark portfolio;
  • assisting a global beverages brand with dismantling a large counterfeit syndicate and a global clothing company with combating illegal parallel trade;
  • representing a foreign state before the Dutch courts in relation to EU state aid law; and
  • representing a Turkish‑Dutch company in commercial ownership litigation against the Turkish state following the alleged coup d’état.

Edwin also represents an individual who is the victim of a slander campaign initiated by two Dutch Top 500 companies and their owner.
