Gary heads the Dispute Resolution practice in Asia. He specialises in dispute resolution, with a particular focus on China-related disputes and regulatory investigations.
He regularly conducts complex court cases in Hong Kong for investors (including those involving joint venture parties, shareholders, investment funds, institutional and private investors), sizeable private and multinational companies, listed companies and high net worth individuals. In particular, he has extensive experience and a strong track record in dealing with applications for injunctive reliefs such as asset freezing orders in aid of both local and foreign court and arbitral proceedings.
Gary regularly acts as counsel in arbitral proceedings conducted under a variety of arbitral rules, including CIETAC, HKIAC, ICC and UNCITRAL. He also advises company directors and officers on regulatory investigations and disciplinary proceedings instigated by regulators and law enforcement agencies such as the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX), the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) and the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).
With a strong understanding of the legal and business environment in Mainland China and Hong Kong SAR, and an appreciation of the cultural differences between the regions, Gary strives to achieve successful outcomes for clients through well-thought-out litigation strategies and effective use of court/arbitral processes and well-timed negotiations.
