Michael Surmann is a corporate and M&A lawyer specialising in Private Equity transactions. He advises national and international companies, entrepreneurs and financial investors on national and cross-border acquisitions, disposals and joint ventures.

He supports our clients in the coordination of complex transactions and projects as well as in all day-to-day corporate law matters. In this context, Michael Surmann regularly advises clients on re-investments as well as management and employee participations. Another key area of his work is Venture/Growth Capital.

Michael Surmann has specific industry expertise in the areas of digital business, technology, AI as well as healthcare and life sciences.

His recent transactions include, inter alia:

  • Advising Minlay SAS, a portfolio company of Adagia Partners, on add-on acquisitions

  • Advising Avedon Capital Partners on the acquisition of DMS Group, a service provider in the energy industry

  • Advising Waterland Private Equity on the acquisition of YieldKit GmbH (mrge Group), a platform specialising in commerce advertising, as well as several add-on acquisitions, including Digidip and Shopping24

  • Advising Waterland Private Equity on the acquisition of LionsHome GmbH, a product discovery platform in the home & living sector, and on add-on acquisitions

  • Advising Mitratech Inc. on the acquisition of Alyne GmbH, an AI software provider for compliance and risk management

  • Advising Brookfield Asset Management on the acquisition of a majority stake in the cleantech company Thermondo GmbH

  • Advising EQOM, a portfolio company of Waterland Private Equity, on the acquisition of Sonoma Internet GmbH, operator of the online shop Amorelie

  • Advising Smart Parking Ltd, an Australian listed company in the field of digital car park management and parking technologies, on the acquisition of ParkInnovation GmbH

  • Advising Global Equestrian Group, a portfolio company of Waterland Private Equity, on its partnership with Swedish Olympic dressage rider Patrik Kittel

  • Advising other Private Equity clients (inter alia, Gilde Equity Management, Gimv) on acquisitions and general corporate measures

  • Advising O.C. Hairsystems GmbH on several financing rounds

  • Advising Düsseldorf Airport on (i) the reorganisation of the fuel depot and terminal and (ii) the establishment of a joint venture and sale of the majority of the cargo division to Swissport

Michael studied law at the University of Münster. During his legal clerkship, Michael worked for other international law firms in the field of corporate law and M&A. In 2018, he was admitted to the bar and joined our Corporate & Commercial team in Düsseldorf.
