Simmons’ AI tool Percy wins coveted FT AI innovation award

Percy AI, the generative AI tool developed by Simmons & Simmons, has been named the winner in the innovation in AI category at the FT Innovative Lawyers Awards

Percy AI, the in-house generative AI tool developed by international law firm Simmons & Simmons, has been named the winner in the innovation in AI category at the FT Innovative Lawyers 2025 Europe Awards.

Held at the Natural History Museum in London on Thursday 18 September, the awards celebrate the most innovative lawyers in the European legal industry.

Simmons secured the "Innovation in Automation and AI Tools" award for its success with the development and widespread adoption of Percy across all areas of the firm.

Simmons was credited with the innovative development of Percy, and achieving rapid firmwide adoption. The AI tool is deeply embedded in the firm's operations and legal work: a comprehensive AI transformation programme, driven by the firm's LLM team and its dedicated "AI Champions" has resulted in lawyers, business services professionals and other employees using Percy on a daily basis.

Over 87% of fee earners are using Percy, while there are over 670 unique daily users and over 5,000 daily prompts.

In hundreds of client matters, Percy is freeing up the firm's lawyers, enabling them to focus on the more strategic and complex elements of their legal work.

Commenting on the FT award win, Drew Winlaw, Partner and Global LLM lead, said: "I'm immensely proud of the firm and everyone involved in Percy's development to have secured this highly prestigious award. In Percy, we have built a truly unique in-house platform from the ground up, which is now revolutionising how we work as a firm."

Alex Brown, Partner and Head of the firm's Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) sector, said: "This win is the result of the remarkable collective effort that has been made to integrate Percy into both our business operations and client-facing work. Percy, our suite of other AI tools and our world-class in-house expertise and AI advisory capabilities, are now an essential component of our client offering."

Emily Monastiriotis, Global Managing Partner, commented: "This award reflects the outstanding work across the firm in developing and integrating Percy into our daily work. I'm proud of Simmons' position as a leader in legal AI and the innovative work we're doing that continues to set the benchmark in the industry."
