At the beginning of 2023, our Simmons experts made a number of predictions for the year ahead.
How are our predictions transpiring?
The “turning points” by which we characterised at the start of 2023 are proving every bit as difficult to navigate as we had warned. From ‘sticky inflation’ to the ‘East-West Gap’ via the Ukraine war, the sources of volatility and corporate stress are legion. But the direction of travel remains towards a future business landscape dominated by ESG and digitalisation, including AI.
Our Client Insights Lead, Andy Hartwill, gives his quarterly update on the on the macro environment.
Turning to the New Normal: the ESG impact
"The recent groundswell of policy activity on nature and biodiversity has helped highlight the benefits of investing in nature. The potential is being translated into practice, with innovative financial products from debt for nature swaps to blue bonds to nature credits, driving business efforts to price the priceless.”
Sonali Siriwardena Partner, Global Head of ESG, Simmons & Simmons
Turning to the New Normal: the digitalisation impact
"The way in which AI has landed deep into the public consciousness in 2023 has surpassed expectations. Its continued rapid development and the emphasis in the public narrative around productivity makes it the game-changing technology for digital transformation."
Raza Rizvi, Partner, Simmons & Simmons
