Rob acts for international (re)insurers in complex litigation and arbitration. Rob's practice focuses on high-value (re)insurance coverage disputes across several lines of business, most notably excess casualty/Bermuda Form, product liability, professional liability, and reinsurance. He regularly represents (re)insurers in international arbitrations and English Commercial Court proceedings.

Rob frequently works as part of a multi-jurisdictional team representing (re)insurers on their most complex and high-profile international disputes. In doing so, Rob has particular experience in advising and representing insurer clients in connection with global programmes written for some of the world's largest companies.

Rob has been on multiple secondments to the in-house litigation team of one of the world's largest (re)insurers, advising claims and underwriting teams across several lines of businesses and in multiple jurisdictions. Legal 500 testimonials describe him as "a hugely impressive up-and-coming talent".

Rob's recent experience includes:

  • Acting for several global insurers in connection with London-seated arbitrations relating to excess liability/Bermuda Form coverage disputes arising out of the US opioid "epidemic".

  • Acting for the cedant in a London-seated reinsurance coverage arbitration concerning substantial losses (>$500m) arising out of civil unrest in South America.

  • Acting for London market, European, and US insurers in parallel proceedings in the English Commercial Court and Delaware arising out of a liability insurance coverage dispute over losses connected to the manufacture and marketing of herbicide products.

  • Acting for a European insurer against a state-owned entity in a London-seated arbitration arising out of a $1.3bn arbitral award following a dispute over an EPC contract for the development of an oil refinery in South America.

  • Advising a European insurer in relation to sport-related concussion group litigation.
