Simon is a part-time Senior Knowledge Lawyer in the Structured Finance and Derivatives group.
Simon’s practice focuses on derivatives and structured products, with particular expertise in credit derivatives. He started his training contract in September 2001 and was admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales in September 2003. Most of his career has been in London, though he spent periods working in Amsterdam, Tokyo and Hong Kong. He was a partner in the Simmons & Simmons Hong Kong office from 2016 to 2018, then made a switch to do a PhD in speaker diarization followed by a postdoc in machine learning/artificial intelligence, before re-starting at Simmons & Simmons in June 2025.
Simon is particularly interested in the commercial aspects of financial transactions, and is keen to apply his knowledge of machine learning to help prepare useful knowhow and help colleagues and clients with technical aspects of their transactions. Simon has given many client and internal presentations and written a number of published articles on derivatives, including “The Aftermath of the 2014 ISDA Credit Derivatives Definitions” in September 2016.
