Tim acts for London and Bermuda market insurers and reinsurers on complex, contentious insurance and reinsurance coverage matters, often with an international element.

Tim has extensive experience advising London and Bermuda market insurers on the coverage aspects of high value excess liability claims, with a particular focus on coverage disputes involving policies written on the Bermuda Form.

Tim also regularly advises clients on contentious reinsurance matters, including claims under a range of reinsurance policies and retrocession contracts. Additionally, Tim has represented insurers in high-value coverage disputes involving Property, Environmental Liability, Political Violence, Political Risk, Trade Credit, D&O, Product Liability and Product Recall policies.

Tim is highly regarded by (re)insurer clients for his communication skills, his commercial approach and his expertise in all forms of dispute resolution, in particular, arbitration proceedings.

Recent examples of Tim’s work include:

  • Advising Bermuda Form insurers on various significant coverage claims in connection with mass tort litigation in the US concerning a range of products, including PFAS chemicals, pesticides, contaminated baby food, defective medical devices and petroleum additives
  • Successfully defending excess insurers in Swiss arbitration proceedings worth $250m relating to losses allegedly caused by a herbicide
  • Advising (re)insurers on high-value property damage claims following the collapse of a tailings dam in Brazil and the destruction of a hydro-electric power plant in India
  • Advising reinsurers in connection with multi-billion dollar losses claimed in connection with the collapse of a bank
  • Acting for a cedant in arbitration proceedings concerning Chilean riots
  • Defending reinsurers in arbitration proceedings in Taiwan concerning pandemic losses
  • Drafting policy wordings covering various classes of business
