Jonathan is a partner in our London insurance team. He solves complex and challenging legal problems for a range of insurance and reinsurance clients, including Lloyd’s carriers, company market insurers and MGAs. Jonathan’s focus is on finding effective solutions to problems and working back from those so that clients are given a clear strategy that is both outcomes focussed and facilitates key stakeholder engagement.

His practice broadly breaks down into two related elements.

• His coverage work covers all classes of business with a particular specialisation in niche lines, such as political risks and trade credit, cyber, warranty & indemnity/transactional risks, contingency, specie, reinsurance, aviation and complicated financial lines products. He advises on recoveries and on non-contentious matters, such as policy design, the launch of affinity schemes and the impact of rescheduling proposals on credit insurance policies. Jonathan has also worked extensively on contentious non-claims matters, such as capital provider/managing agent and delegated authority disputes.
• Jonathan has extensive experience in regulatory matters and has advised on complex sanctions related issues. This includes, for example, advising on product oversight and governance requirements, including corporate governance structures, data/MI design, consumer product development and the impact of the regulatory framework on commercial lines as well as more traditional consumer lines. It includes advising on the specific regulations that apply to entities operating in the Lloyd’s market. It also includes complicated, multi-jurisdictional sanctions problems in various insurance classes of business.

Jonathan joined us in 2023, having previously worked as head of claims and legal counsel at various Lloyd’s managing agencies and as legal adviser to a couple of specialist MGAs. Prior to that, Jonathan was a partner at another London law firm. Jonathan’s background has given him strong commercial experience alongside his technical expertise.
