Ben is an associate in our Financial Services Regulatory team in London, specialising in payments regulation for FinTechs and institutional clients as a member of Simmons' global Emerging Technology Group.
He focuses on scoping the regulatory perimeter for innovative payments products as well as advising on regulatory change implementation – recently including the SEPA Instant Payment Regulations, the EBA No Action letter on MiCA, the UK’s APP reimbursement regime, and the continued developments regarding virtual IBANs.
Ben is currently leading on a global financial institution / card network’s core global regulatory compliance inventory – covering ‘all laws in all countries’ and detailing the individual obligations. Beyond this, clients span from emerging FinTechs to global banks and trading firms. He has also completed multiple secondments, including a nine-month secondment with a leading UK & European EMI, leading on all aspects of their regulatory compliance, including advocacy at the European Commission on the regulation of virtual IBANs.
Ben leads on our client update Payments View which gives a snapshot of the key regulatory developments impacting the industry as well as the development of Simmons & Simmons’ new cross-border regulatory tool, Payments Reviewer.
