Gema specialises in Financial Services Regulation, Prevention of Money Laundering and Compliance. During her professional career she has advised banks, investment firms, management companies and other financial institutions in procedures for authorization and passporting of entities, creation and marketing of financial instruments, and the adaptation of internal procedures of the entities to new regulations (MiFID II, ESG, CBDF...) at domestic and cross-border level.

She is an expert in sanctioning procedures, advising on prior supervisory and inspection actions, as well as on administrative procedures in matters such as rules of conduct, market abuse, prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing, among others.

Prior to joining Simmons & Simmons she was a Senior Lawyer in the regulatory department of another international law firm. She has been in-house counsel for financial institutions and other economic sectors for the adaptation of internal procedures and for the implementation of criminal and corporate compliance programs and other services related to ethics and rules of conduct within entities.

She has a degree in Law and a Master's Degree in Law from the Instituto de Estudios Bursátiles (IEB) and is a specialist in Compliance from CESCOM®.
