Charles is a Supervising Associate in our Insurance and Construction group in London, who routinely acts for Insurers and their Insureds, including directors and officers, solicitors, accountants, brokers, architects, engineers, surveyors and other construction professionals in High Court litigation, arbitration, adjudication and mediation.

Charles also advises on intricate policy coverage advice to primary and excess layer insurers, as well as disputes arising out of PI policies and on management liability/D&O policies, Warranty & Indemnity policies, and aviation policies.

Charles co-hosts the Simmons Data Centre Podcast Series - Data Dive: Navigating Data Centres with Simmons | Simmons & Simmons.

Charles has carried out a year-long secondment to a market-leading insurer, handling a varied caseload of PI claims, including construction professionals, architects and engineers, as well as solicitors and accountants. Charles joined the firm in 2018 as a trainee and completed a secondment with a major investment bank as part of his training contract, before qualifying into the Insurance and Construction team in March 2020. Outside of work, Charles captains the Simmons Cricket team.

Recent experience includes:

  • Acted for the directors of a mining company and their D&O insurers in relation to allegations by shareholders of wrongful share dilution.

  • Acting for a non-executive director of a large multinational investment fund, in respect of allegations of breaches of Cayman law directors’ duties in claim for damages of over USD 100m.

  • Advising on coverage and monitoring following claims by liquidators following the collapse of a large Channel Islands construction company.

  • Advising Insurers on coverage under a W&I policy in respect of a renewable energy deal.

  • Advising in multi-party litigation acting for the architect in a cladding matter involving a large multi-unit student accommodation property. The remedial works are valued at in excess of £65 million. Contribution claims are being pursued against the architect, as well as a number of other parties.

  • Defending a design and build contractor and their insurers on a significant fire safety claim currently progressing in the TCC likely to lead a trial during the course of 2025.

  • Acted for a design and build contractor in a complex LCIA arbitration against a Singapore based Respondent relating to the testing and commissioning of a data centre.
