Michael joined Simmons and Simmons as a trainee solicitor in 1994 and became a partner in 2004. He has spent time during his career working in our Hong Kong, Tokyo, Rome and Milan offices and is now based in our Bristol office, which he was head of for three years until 2023. He now heads the firm’s Trade Delivery Unit (TDU), a specialised team within our Structured Finance and Derivatives group that focuses on managing and delivering structured products trades and project work and which has a particular focus on incorporating cutting edge AI-driven application and tools into its work to drive process improvement and efficiencies for our clients.
Michael regularly advises leading investment banks on a range of transactions, with his principal practice areas being structured products, trade finance and OTC derivatives transactions. Michael has experience on advising on repackaging transactions for many of the leading investment banks and on a range of on-balance sheet securitised derivatives (delivered in note, warrant and certificate form). He advises on the retail offering of structured products across Europe, including asset-backed securities, and his ten years working in the Simmons & Simmons Rome and Milan offices has given him a particular knowledge of Italian structured products and asset-backed finance transactions.
