Lee heads our capital markets practice in the region and is head of Middle East Financial Markets and Real Estate. He has extensive experience advising financial institutions and public and private companies on international sukuk transactions and international debt offerings (both Regulation S and Rule 144A issues), equity offerings (including hybrid capital issues) and liability management and debt restructuring exercises. He has also advised on a number of capital markets related first or their kind deals, setting the tone for future developments in this area.
He is one of the most experienced debt capital markets lawyers in the Middle East having been based in the UAE for two decades and supporting on capital markets related issuances across the region, including in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan and Oman.
His specialism lies in advising financial institutions, including with respect to regulatory capital issuances, having advised on the first ever AED sukuk issuance (by Emirates Islamic Bank), the first AT1 sukuk issuance (by Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank), the first Tier 2 issuance in the UAE (by Mashreqbank), the first QAR issuance by a bank (the QAR issuance by CBQ), the first sustainable AT1 issuance (by Riyad Bank) and the first international AT1 issuance out of Jordan (by Capital Bank) to name a few. Additionally, in recent years, Lee advised on the capital markets transactions undertaken by every financial institution in Qatar.
