Responsible Investment Primers

In conjunction with AIMA, we have updated our Responsible Investment Primers.

Simmons & Simmons/ AIMA Responsible Investment Primers

Responsible investment (RI) is one of the most significant and fast-growing trends in the hedge fund industry today.

The greater availability of environmental, social and governance (ESG) data is enabling managers to build more sophisticated models to identify inefficient markets in which ESG risks are not accurately priced.

And while, for some hedge fund strategies, it may have little relevance, significant numbers of RI funds are being launched, and assets are flowing into RI strategies.

In conjunction with AIMA, we have published two RI Primers, aimed at:

  • helping investors understand RI and its applicability and relevance to hedge funds;
  • assisting regulators with the key issues currently faced by managers as they develop regulation in this area; and
  • providing clarity around the language of RI, to facilitate meaningful conversations between managers, investors, and other stakeholders.

The AIMA Responsible Investment Primer (May 2020):

  • provides a high-level overview of RI;
  • reviews the most recent developments in the EU’s ESG legislative initiative;
  • outlines some of the more common RI policies adopted by managers;
  • seeks to answer some frequently asked questions about RI in the context of hedge funds; and
  • outlines a series of AIMA principles for effective regulation in this space.

The AIMA Primer for Asset Managers in Asia (October 2020):

  • provides an overview of the growth of ESG;
  • examines the rapid development of ESG financing in the private credit sector;
  • summarises legal and regulatory developments in:
    • Singapore;
    • Hong Kong;
    • Mainland China; and
  • sets out practical issues which Asian asset managers should consider.
