Event

Join Simmons & Simmons for a breakfast briefing for tax and legal professionals in the quant and algorithmic trading industry on 19 May from 8.30 - 10.30am, focusing on the regulatory, tax and transfer pricing challenges arising from the use of AI models. This is also an opportunity to bring tax and legal professionals together to network with a chance to participate in a discussion on key areas affecting this sector.

We are delighted that Lord Chris Holmes of Richmond MBE will join us to discuss his views on the likely direction of travel for AI regulation in the UK and beyond.

Lord Holmes is a leading voice in technology, innovation and public policy. As a member of the House of Lords since 2013, he has shaped legislation on digital trade, AI ethics, financial inclusion and social mobility, drawing on extensive Select Committee experience across Artificial Intelligence, Digital Skills and Democracy and Digital Technologies. Lord Holmes is the Sponsor of the Private Members’ Bill on AI Regulation in the UK. He is also a member of the House of Lord’s Select Committee on Communications and Digital which published the recent report on AI and copyright.

Amongst other things, Lord Holmes will discuss the likely direction of travel of AI regulation in the UK in light of the recent Government report on Copyright and Artificial Intelligence. See our recent article summarising the key aspects of the report for background - A masterclass in can-kicking: UK Government views on AI and copyright.

Our transfer pricing and tax specialists will also cover the current challenges and risk areas for quant and algo traders from a UK and international transfer pricing and tax perspective in light of Lord Holmes’ findings and our experience in the industry:

The session will be interactive, with time for discussion over breakfast.
