International law firm Simmons & Simmons has partnered with Franklin Templeton, one of the world's largest asset managers, on its flagship HeadStart programme, a learning and skills initiative dedicated to empowering female students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
Established last year in collaboration with Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University (PNU) in Riyadh, the HeadStart programme aims to empower female students in KSA by providing them with both theoretical and practical knowledge of the financial services industry.
The two-phase educational initiative is specifically designed for female students in their final year of undergraduate studies in finance and economics. In the first phase, students gain foundational knowledge of core investment themes, including an introduction to asset classes, portfolio construction, market analysis, and legal and compliance, through online learning via Franklin Templeton Academy. The second phase offers an in-office training placement with partner organisations, providing hands-on experience across asset management and financial services.
Simmons & Simmons is proud to support the initiative as a partner organisation, alongside the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia, The Bank of New York (BNY), Fitch Ratings, Saudi Venture Capital Company (SVC), SNB Capital and Standard Chartered.
Simmons & Simmons recently opened its office in Riyadh in June 2025, following nearly three decades of experience in the Kingdom. Led by partner Amer Al Amr, the firm's Riyadh office provides advice on both local and international law across multiple sectors.
Emily Monastiriotis, Global Managing Partner, commented: "The launch of our Riyadh office demonstrates our commitment to Saudi Arabia and the wider region. Our presence allows us to work closely with partners and the local community to make a meaningful and lasting impact. By taking part in initiatives like HeadStart, we're helping to support the next generation of female leaders in the region."
Penny Miller, UK Country Head, added: "Our longstanding relationship with Franklin Templeton, spanning over 30 years, has enabled us to support impactful initiatives that drive real change. The HeadStart programme is a fantastic culmination of our shared commitments."
Muneer Khan, Simmons & Simmons Middle East Head, commented: "We're really pleased to partner with Franklin Templeton and PNU on the HeadStart programme, and we're proud to help talented female students gain the skills and experience they need to thrive in their future careers in the financial sector."
