Simmons & Simmons boosts Luxembourg finance offering with Partner hire

International law firm Simmons & Simmons has appointed Fabien Debroise as Partner in its Luxembourg finance practice.

International law firm Simmons & Simmons has appointed Fabien Debroise as Partner in its Luxembourg finance practice, strengthening its fund finance, acquisition finance and restructuring capabilities. The hire reflects growing demand for fund finance expertise in Luxembourg, where asset managers increasingly use financing across the life of their funds.

Fabien is a highly regarded Luxembourg finance lawyer specialising in fund finance, alongside acquisition finance, real estate finance, corporate lending and restructuring. He regularly advises banks, alternative lenders, private equity sponsors, investment funds and corporates on high-value, cross-border financing matters.

With over 20 years' experience, he joins Simmons & Simmons from the boutique law firm he founded, following five years as head of practice at the Luxembourg office of an international law firm.

A key focus of Fabien's practice is advising on the full spectrum of fund finance products, including subscription line facilities, net asset value financings, hybrid facilities and other bespoke fund-related lending structures. His restructuring experience enables him to support clients across the full lifecycle of transactions, including distressed situations, debt restructurings, workouts and recovery strategies.

Fabien's appointment adds further depth to the firm's Luxembourg finance practice and strengthens its ability to support sponsors, lenders and asset managers on complex cross-border transactions.

Luxembourg is Europe's largest investment fund centre, and much of the growth in private equity, private credit, real estate and infrastructure funds is structured through it. As these funds grow and mature, managers are relying more on subscription lines, NAV facilities and hybrid structures to manage liquidity and support returns. As a result, fund finance has become one of the busiest areas of Luxembourg's finance market.

Commenting on his appointment, Fabien Debroise said: "I am pleased to join Simmons & Simmons and look forward to contributing to the growth of the firm's Luxembourg finance practice. The firm's international platform and strong relationships with asset managers and financial institutions provide an excellent environment to support clients on complex, cross-border financing and restructuring matters."

Commenting on the hire, Louis-Maël Cogis said: "Having known Fabien for more than 20 years and worked with him in the past, I am particularly excited to welcome him to Simmons & Simmons. Fabien's arrival adds significant depth to our Luxembourg finance practice and further enhances our ability to support sponsors, lenders and asset managers on complex cross-border transactions. His deep expertise across fund finance, acquisition finance and restructuring, together with his strong standing in the Luxembourg market, will be a tremendous asset to our clients and a valuable addition to our international finance platform."
