International law firm Simmons & Simmons has advised Covington & Burling, the Washington-based law firm, on the pre-let of 86,000 sq ft across four floors at 22 Bishopsgate. The US firm has taken floors 51 to 54 and will move its London headquarters from the Strand, in the West End, to join 13 tenants who have signed for space at the 1.4m sq ft office building.

Covington & Burling is expected to move to 22 Bishopsgate in 2021. The building is a new, PLP-designed workplace destination and the first in the UK to apply for the Well Building Standard.

The Simmons team was led by Real Estate partner Deian Rhys, supported by Carol Hewson, Alice Bell, Matthew Tinsley and Alexandra Moast (Real Estate), Mark Watterson (Tax) and Richard Dyton, Elizabeth Ormesher and Jack Rutherford (Construction).

Commenting on the transaction, Deian said: “We are delighted to have represented Covington in securing enviable space in this phenomenal building, and wish them well as they celebrate this milestone in their long association with London”.

JLL and CMS acted for 22 Bishopsgate. Savills, LSM and Gardiner & Theobald also advised Covington & Burling.
