A cross-border team at international law firm Simmons & Simmons has advised Antwerp-based maritime group CMB.TECH on its merger with Golden Ocean, in a major deal in the maritime industry.

CMB.TECH is one of the largest listed, diversified and future-proof maritime groups. Its merger with Norway-based shipping company Golden Ocean will create one of the world's largest diversified groups in the industry, boasting a modern fleet of more than 250 ships worth US$ 11 billion in assets.

Further supporting the energy transition in the sector, the CMB.TECH fleet includes more than 80 hydrogen- and ammonia-ready vessels.

Simmons’ experienced Competition & Antitrust teams in Brussels and Germany supported CMB.TECH on the completion of the merger with Golden Ocean.

The team comprised Partner Alejandro Guerrero, co-head of the firm’s EU Competition Law and Tech Regulation practice based in both Brussels and in Madrid, and Partner Andrea Pomana, head of the firm’s Antitrust and Competition practice in Germany. They were supported by team members Martin Gramsch, Pablo Moro and Laura Cortes.

Alejandro Guerrero commented: “This is a major merger for CMB.TECH and the industry. The deal will deliver further growth and future-proof CMB.TECH, supporting its transition towards more sustainable fuels. It was a pleasure to support the client with our experienced and integrated competition and antitrust teams – we congratulate both parties.”
