International law firm Simmons & Simmons has strengthened its German employment practice with the addition of Michael Kalbfus, who joins the firm as a partner in its Munich office on 15 October 2026. His arrival extends the firm’s employment law presence in Germany to Munich.
Michael joins Simmons & Simmons from Pinsent Masons. A certified specialist in employment law, he advises companies across the full range of individual and collective employment law matters. His particular areas of focus are introducing artificial intelligence in the workplace, HR compliance and internal investigations, the compliant deployment of external workers and the associated risks of misclassification.
With his experience at the intersection of employment law, compliance and technology, Michael complements Simmons & Simmons’ sector-led and multidisciplinary approach. His arrival further strengthens the firm’s ability to support companies as they adapt their workforce, compliance processes and working environments to technological change.
“We are delighted to welcome Michael to our partnership. His strong track record in complex transformation, compliance and co-determination matters strengthens our employment offering both in substance and geographically. Establishing an employment law presence in Munich is an important step in the continued development of our German practice.”, says Sascha Morgenroth, National Practice Group Head Employment Germany.
Commenting on his move, Michael said: “Companies are facing fundamental change. Compliance, new workforce models and the introduction of artificial intelligence raise complex and closely connected employment law questions. Simmons & Simmons’ international platform and the close collaboration between employment, digital business and data privacy provide an excellent environment in which to support clients as they address these challenges.”
Michael’s appointment reflects Simmons & Simmons’ strategy to continue growing its German employment offering and to support clients on complex domestic and cross-border matters through integrated teams across offices and practice areas.
