International law firm Simmons & Simmons has expanded its Brussels office with the appointment of Laurent Voisot as partner, launching a tax practice in Belgium.
Laurent joins Simmons from a “big four” firm, where he led the direct tax team within the Financial Services Industry practice. With over fifteen years’ experience, including a decade at “magic circle” law firms, Laurent’s expertise spans Belgian tax implications for financial institutions, transactional support, and regulatory queries. He is recognised for his technical tax knowledge, and ability to deliver innovative solutions for a diverse range of clients, including global asset managers, financial institutions and insurers.
The appointment will allow the firm’s Brussels office to provide a full-service platform to clients, offering sophisticated tax advice in-house and ensuring the seamless execution of complex cross-border transactions involving Belgian assets.
Laurent’s hire will enhance the firm’s premium positioning in the Belgian and European markets and will support its offering in complex European direct tax matters, leveraging proximity to European institutions and providing the international Simmons network with expertise on the evolving European direct tax regulatory landscape.
Eric Blomme, country head Belgium, said: “We are very excited about Laurent joining our Brussels office as a tax partner. Laurent brings the ambition, entrepreneurial spirit, and technical expertise needed to launch our Brussels tax offering. His dynamic approach and track record in developing innovative tax solutions will be invaluable as we further expand our capabilities in Belgium.”
Commenting on his appointment, Laurent Voisot said: “I am pleased to join Simmons & Simmons and look forward to building a market-leading tax practice in Brussels. The firm’s international platform is an ideal environment to deliver strategic value to clients.”
