Simmons advises BT on the sale of its Irish data centres business

International law firm Simmons & Simmons has advised FTSE-listed BT Group Plc on the sale of its Irish data centres business to NASDAQ-listed Equinix.

FTSE-listed BT Group Plc has successfully closed the sale of its Irish data centres business to NASDAQ-listed Equinix.

The sale was cleared by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) after a full, commonly referred to as a Phase 2, investigation by the CCPC.

Following the completion of this deal and BT’s earlier divestment of its Irish wholesale and enterprise business unit in September (on which Simmons & Simmons also advised), BT continues to maintain a strong presence in Ireland with over 300 colleagues serving multinational companies and large organisations. BT will also continue delivering the Emergency Call Answering Service. In Dublin, BT also employs over 100 experts in its global procurement unit, BT Sourced.

The cross-border Simmons & Simmons team advising on the deal was led by partner and Head of Corporate at Simmons Dublin, David Brangam, and partner and Head of TMT, Alex Brown, with support from a cross-border team of specialists from the firm’s corporate and digital business practices.

Commenting on the deal, David Brangam said: "It has been a pleasure working with our friends in BT. This latest transaction galvanises our position as a leading adviser on complex, cross-border deals in the digital infrastructure space."
