Simmons advises Ancala on acquisition of Irish telecom towers

Simmons & Simmons acted as lead counsel on Ancala Partners’ acquisition of a portfolio of 300 telecoms towers in Ireland from Phoenix Towers International.

International law firm Simmons & Simmons acted as lead counsel on Ancala Partners’ acquisition of a portfolio of 300 telecoms towers in Ireland from Phoenix Towers International (PTI).

The acquisition follows a mandated divestment by the Irish Competition and Consumer Protection Commission in connection with PTI’s acquisition of Cellnex Telecom’s business in Ireland, in February 2025.

The portfolio forms a cornerstone investment for Ancala’s new tower platform, TorLoc Towers which has assumed the portfolio’s existing customer contracts and will continue to serve mobile network operators and other clients, including emergency services, rural broadband providers and private enterprise networks.

The cross-border, multidisciplinary Simmons team was led by partner and Head of Corporate in Ireland, David Brangam with support from a team of specialists from the firm’s Corporate, Banking (led by Rachel Stanton), Digital Business (led by Alex Brown) and Real Estate (led by Peter McKeever) practices.

The acquisition follows a year of very strong activity in the digital infrastructure space in Ireland from the firm: Simmons has now advised on all three of the most high-profile digital infrastructure M&A deals in Ireland so far in 2025, across telecoms towers, data centres and fibre.

Commenting on the deal, David Brangam said: “It was a pleasure to partner with Ancala on this exciting platform acquisition which illustrates our expertise in the digital infra space and our ability to successfully deliver complex, regulated, carve-out deals for our clients”.
