Simmons advises Amicus Wealth on acquisition by 7IM

International law firm Simmons & Simmons has advised leading wealth manager Amicus Wealth on its acquisition by 7IM.

Based in the City of London and in operation since 2014, Amicus Wealth advises over 3,000 clients with around £1bn of assets. The deal follows the recent announcement that Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board has agreed to acquire a majority stake in 7iM from Caledonia Investments plc. The addition of Amicus Wealth will result in a group managing combined assets of around £22bn, employing over 550 people.

Under the arrangement with 7IM, Amicus will continue to operate as an independent business and retain its brand and current leadership team.

The Simmons team was led by corporate partner David Hicks, supported by managing associate Giles Clifford, along with other members of the corporate team and from across the firm’s tax, financial services regulatory, employment and other specialist teams.

David Fry, Managing Director of Amicus Wealth, commented: “David Hicks and his team were an excellent choice for us. Our process has thrown up many unforeseen challenges, twists and turns, and the team has negotiated them seamlessly. I would recommend the Simmons corporate team to any business owner embarking on this journey.”

David Hicks commented: “This is a transformational deal for Amicus Wealth, which will enable the firm to continue on a trajectory of growth. Simmons is pleased to have supported this acquisition by leveraging our deep asset and wealth management expertise from our leading corporate practice, and from our specialist teams across the firm.”
