International law firm Simmons & Simmons has appointed Matthew Pitman as Asset Management and Investment Funds (AMIF) sector head.
Joining the firm in 2014, Matthew has been a Simmons partner for over a decade. He has made his name as a specialist investment funds lawyer, focusing on a broad range of classes of private funds, with his practice covering both transactional and investment work.
Matthew brings to the AMIF head role deep experience in the sector, coupled with a strong international outlook – having advised on numerous investment vehicles and assisted global institutional investors on over US$100bn of investments.
Prior to this role, he also led Simmons’ Institutional Investors sub sector group, overseeing significant growth.
Matthew succeeds Robert Turner, who has held the role since 2019.
Simmons & Simmons is the leading law firm in the asset management sector, working with over 85 per cent of the largest 50 global asset managers, most major hedge funds in Europe and the US, an array of private fund managers and some of the world’s largest institutional investors.
Commenting on his appointment as AMIF head, Matthew Pitman said: “It’s a great privilege to have been appointed to lead a sector that is so central to the identity and global offering of Simmons. Under Robert Turner’s leadership, the firm has consolidated its frontrunner status in the sector, expanding its network to advise a wider pool of asset managers. My objective is to build on this success, ensuring that the firm continues to innovate to support clients’ complex and evolving global needs.”
Managing Partner Emily Monastiriotis said: “Matthew is a great leader and is deeply integrated into the sector, having steered leading global clients through major investments for over two decades. I look forward to working closely with him to expand our unrivalled offering in the AMIF sector.”
