International law firm Simmons & Simmons has been included in Financial News’ Fifty Most Influential Lawyers 2023 list. The list, which is in its third year, celebrates outstanding leaders in management roles at top-tier firms or practices. The list also recognises the leading legal minds working on corporate deals including M&A, restructuring and equity issuances, as well as those advising financial services companies on issues such as fund structuring and regulation.
Jeremy Hoyland, who is Simmons & Simmons’ Managing Partner, is serving his third term at the firm, after recently having his term extended by two years to April 2025. He has been at the firm for more than three decades and headed its financial markets and financial institution sector before taking on his current role in 2011. Jeremy has led the firm’s investments in tech, including legal engineering company Wavelength, which it acquired in 2019, and a series of legal tech products offered to clients under the Simmons Solutions brand. He has also overseen the firm’s global expansion, opening offices in Bristol, Beijing, Cambridge, Dublin, Munich, Luxembourg, Shenzhen and San Francisco.
Jeremy said: "I’m honoured to feature in this list alongside so many brilliant and notable names. I see this as recognition of all the hard work done by the firm and its people over the years and want to thank them for their continued dedication.”
Senior Partner, Julian Taylor, commented: “This is a great reflection of the outstanding work Jeremy has done over the last twelve years.”
In October last year, Jeremy won the Innovative Leader Award at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyer Awards Europe. He was recognised for the way he had diversified the firm’s revenue streams with the creation of the Solutions arm of the business, with operations that now spread across Europe and into Asia.
He joined Simmons in 1989 as a trainee and has also worked in Simmons & Simmons’ Hong Kong office.
