The appalling killing of George Floyd, and the worldwide reaction to it, shows that global racial inequalities are a long way from being resolved. Unfortunately, we know that this is just one example of many incidents of racial prejudice that occur daily. At Simmons, equality and diversity are cornerstones of our core values and our commitment to racial equality is total, but we recognise these events as an opportunity for us to reflect on how we can do better.
We commit to continuing our work in respect of inclusive recruitment and retention, to building upon our EMerge and Allies networks and to working with our clients to tackle these issues together. However, we also recognise that real and lasting change requires both collective and individual responsibility. As such, we commit to maintaining environments where difficult and frank conversations can be held, so that all our colleagues and clients may join us in addressing unconscious biases and building greater awareness, and so that we may all do better as individuals, as a firm and as a society.
