Simmons expands disputes offering with senior hire from SFO

We're delighted to announce that Camilla de Silva is to join our dispute resolution practice in London on 4th May 2020.

Camilla joins the firm from the Serious Fraud Office where she is Co-Head of Fraud and Corruption, holding operational responsibility for high profile, complex multi-jurisdictional fraud and corruption investigations. Her work for the SFO has involved some of the largest global and British companies across a wide range of industries and sectors from pharma to finance, and most recently she has been instrumental in negotiating the landmark Airbus DPA.

Camilla is a member of the SFO’s Senior Management Team where she has carried out an active policy role. She was recognised for her work on the landmark Rolls Royce DPA by the General Council of the Bar of England and Wales who awarded her the Employed Barrister of the Year Award in 2017. Prior to joining the SFO, Camilla practiced at the criminal bar, where she specialised in defending and prosecuting serious crime.

Welcoming Camilla to the firm, head of the crime group, Stephen Gentle commented:

“We are delighted to welcome her to the firm. Camilla is a highly talented lawyer with exceptional experience and background, who also has some of the most valuable recent experience available in the market. She will give us a unique perspective and her arrival at the firm is great news for our UK and international clients. We have no doubt she will be a success and her contribution will further enhance the firm’s market-leading dispute resolution practice.”

On joining the firm, Camilla commented:

“I have been privileged to work at the SFO at a time of significant development in the criminal law and in global enforcement activity. When considering my future, it was important to me to move to an environment which combines challenging international work with a culture where I would naturally fit. I am excited to have found that fit and those opportunities at Simmons, and I have no doubt Simmons is the right home for me”.

Lisa Osofsky, director of the Serious Fraud Office, said:

“I am sorry to see Camilla go and very grateful for her outstanding contributions to the SFO: professionally, as a member of our leadership team and as an ambassador for our organisation. I wish her all the best in her new role.”
