Are you ready to join the world of law for the long-term, and start a lasting career with us? We’ve laid out this map of how your training contract will progress, but to make sure it’s right for you, there’s just one thing we need to know.

Four seat rotations

Your training contract consists two parts - practice training contract for twelve months and training contract for another twelve months. You will start with Part B of the Singapore Bar Examinations. Then, you’ll start on your practice training contract which is made up of two six-month seats. When you complete the practice contract period, you’ll start on your training contract which consists two six-month seats across our practice areas, including Dispute Resolution, Financial Markets and Corporate & Commercial. Upon the completion of our 2-year training programme, you will be qualified in both Singapore and England & Wales.

Continuous support

Throughout everything you do from this point on, you’ll have your buddy beside you. And don’t forget, as part of a host of trainees – not to mention an engaged global team - you’ll find a firm support network wherever you look.

Qualification

At the end of your training contract, you’ll officially qualify as a practising lawyer. As an NQ (Newly Qualified), you’ll move into the department of your choice, beginning the transition from trainee to associate. And of course, we’ll keep supporting you as you do.

Becoming an associate - and beyond

Associate status is the next goal after your training contract, and many of our trainees will find permanent associate roles with us. As a key member of the team, you’ll build on your specialist skills in your area of choice, working on day-to-day client work, business development, and mentoring younger members of your team. Now, you’ll start to aim higher, moving towards Supervising Associate, Managing Associate, and even making Partner, when you’re ready.

Probono

Clients come to us for our commitment to forward thinking, and you can expect nothing less in our pro bono work. Our lawyers take on up to 50 hours of pro bono work per year, providing free legal advice to NGOs, international charities and not-for-profit organisations. That means you’ll see how the world of law supports some extraordinary work, whether it’s raising money for charity or tackling social injustice.

One of our proudest achievements is Access to Justice, which provides free legal advice to society’s most vulnerable. Over the past year, we’ve helped migrant workers claim damages for injuries. We’ve helped 120 people in the UK with their disability benefit problems. And we’ve set up the world’s first online toolkit for human rights defenders.

All our lawyers get involved in pro bono work– at every stage of their career. And there’ll be plenty of opportunities for you to get involved too.
