Simmons & Simmons and TMI Associates established a qualified joint venture in September 2001, the first between a major established Japanese law firm and a major international law firm.

Together we have over 360 legal staff in Tokyo, occupying the same offices and working closely on Japanese and international matters with fully bilingual English and Japanese language capabilities. Secondments have further strengthened the links between the firms and benefited our clients.

We have worked on major transactions involving Japanese companies, institutions and interests in many different jurisdictions and sectors. Elements of this work have been groundbreaking. We are experienced in dealing with complex, high-value, cross-border projects involving Japan which are central to our clients’ commercial strategies..  We regularly support clients operating in the firm's specialist sectors of TMT, energy & infrastructure, life sciences and financial institutions.
