International pro bono work

Below are some examples of recent pro bono projects undertaken by Simmons & Simmons internationally:

Hong Kong / China

In 2009, our Hong Kong office approached various charities, including Sunshine Action Ltd., in relation to the giving of pro bono legal assistance in Hong Kong and mainland China.  We are committed to the provision of pro bono advice during 2010.

Madrid

Initiatives include assisting the London Mozart Players in collecting their fees for a concert performed at Salamance, Spain, from the Spanish agent awaiting payment from the City Council.

The Netherlands

In 2006 our Dutch offices became the legal partner of Unicef Netherlands. This partnership means that we provide legal advice to Unicef at a significantly reduced fee, a free legal telephone helpline for Unicef partners and the regional Unicef committees, and act as sparring partner for Unicef at an organisational level.

The Dutch offices have undertaken three projects for an international non-profit organisation based in the Netherlands, which stimulates young people all over the world to connect through music, video, dance, theatre and new media.

Paris

A team from Paris have taken on projects giving legal advice to the Rainforest Foundation UK in relation to the new Forest Code of the Central African Republic and advice to Global Witness on the legality of logging legislation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Middle East

Our Middle East offices have worked on a number of pro bono matters including advising the British Red Cross in relation to the tsunami rebuild in the Maldives and a pro bono matter relating to a death row case in the US.
