Irene is an associate in our Madrid office and member of the financial services group. Her area of expertise is focused on investment services, financial instruments, asset management, and market regulation.
Irene's core area of expertise is financial regulation and she specialises in MiFID. She is undertaking financial services and markets regulatory work, including provision of regulatory advise for Spanish and international financial institutions (mainly her clients include banks, investment funds, asset managers and investment firms).
Irene is part of the Regulatory practice team, and provides regular advice on cross-border regulatory projects, including passporting procedures and the obtaining of the required local licences from relevant regulators and other contractual documentation. A key part of this process is ensuring that applicable EU legislation (including MiFID2) is adequately reflected in the setting up financial institutions in Spain.

- advising leading Spanish investment firms and international investment firms with Spanish branches in the setting up of business implementation of local regulatory requirements, with a specific focus on relevant contractual and informative documentation, internal procedures, policies and practices, and on-going regulatory advice
- advising financial national and international investment firms and credit institutions on the impacts and the implementation process for complying with MiFID 2
- advising leading credit institutions including on all regulatory matters related to the provision of financial activities in Spain.
In January 2017, Irene joined the financial markets team and focuses on the regulatory practice in the Madrid office. During joining Simmons & Simmons, she spent three years as part of the financial regulation & compliance department at one of the big four accountancy firms.
