Bas Berghuis van Woortman
Bas is the national head of the IP practice in The Netherlands. Bas' experience covers the full range of intellectual property activities, with a focus on patents and technology. Bas has a particular expertise in the life sciences sector, handling patent and technology matters regarding medical devices and pharmaceuticals, and the TMT sector, acting in matters regarding electronics, telecoms and software.
Described by clients as "business-oriented, responsive and proactive", Bas acts before national and international courts, as well as the Dutch and European Patent Offices. He has been involved in all aspects of litigation, as well as other IP related issues such as patent prosecution strategy, negotiation of research and development agreements and issues relating to trade secrets and the protection of know-how.
Pertaining to Article 35b, first paragraph of the Dutch Regulations on the Legal Profession, Bas Berghuis van Woortman has registered the following field(s) of law with the Dutch Bar Association: Intellectual Property and Litigation. This registration obliges Bas Berghuis van Woortman to obtain ten permanent education points in the registered field(s) of law each calendar year, in accordance with the rules of the Dutch Bar Association.

- acting against AbbVie in various proceedings based on anti-TNF alpha antibody technology
Educated at the Radboud University of Nijmegen, and at the University of Brussels, Bas graduated in both Dutch Law and European Law. Bas frequently lectures on IP rights and patent law, and he publishes regularly in intellectual property and patent magazines.
