International law firm Simmons & Simmons has announced that Grace Chong has joined the firm as an of-counsel and Michelle Ta has been appointed as a foreign legal consultant. Grace has joined the Financial Markets team as a dedicated regulatory and Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) specialist covering the Asia region, focusing on Singapore and Hong Kong. In February 2019, Michelle was appointed as a foreign legal consultant in the Hong Kong Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) team. Grace has over a decade of experience in advising banks, asset managers and corporates on regulatory and fintech matters in Singapore and Hong Kong. A former in-house counsel at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), she regularly interacts with key regulators, is closely involved in regional regulatory reform initiatives and has led discussions with regulators on behalf of the financial services industry. She has extensive experience advising clients on cross-border and complex regulatory matters, including licensing and conduct of business requirements, regulatory investigations and regulatory change.

Grace, an advocate for digital innovation and critical infrastructural transformation, has advised banks, exchanges and startups on various regulatory issues. She is also a certified cybersecurity professional (GLEG) and has conducted cybersecurity assessments and investigations in Asia.

Michelle’s appointment has strengthened the firm’s ICT practice in Hong Kong and international TMT sector capability as she brings a wealth of experience in providing advice on complex information technology services, technology commercialisation and transactional intellectual property in mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining Simmons & Simmons, Michelle was based in Melbourne, as a senior associate in an international law firm.
