International law firm Simmons & Simmons has expanded its tax practice with the arrival of a new transfer pricing partner (Non-Lawyer). Tomoko Ikawa joined the firm’s London office on 3 June 2019 as a partner in the corporate tax group.
Tomoko’s arrival forms part of the firm’s ongoing strategic plans for the expansion of its tax advisory and disputes practices. Upon arrival, she will focus on building the transfer pricing practice at Simmons & Simmons primarily for clients in the life sciences and TMT sectors.
Tomoko joins the firm from Ernst & Young LLP and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in all areas of the transfer pricing lifecycle, including design and planning, compliance and controversy.
Darren Oswick, head of the International corporate tax group said: “We are delighted to welcome Tomoko into the group. We launched our transfer pricing practice at the beginning of 2018 and are excited by the progress we have made to date. Tomoko’s arrival will further strengthen the practice, particularly in the Life Sciences and TMT sector.”
Nick Skerrett, head of contentious tax and corporate tax partner said: “Transfer pricing is an increasing area of controversy for our clients. Coming from a Big Four accountancy firm, Tomoko brings a valuable skillset for our clients and further strengthens our contentious tax capabilities.”
Commenting on joining the firm, Tomoko Ikawa added: "With our clients' businesses and the tax landscape changing ever so rapidly in recent years, it is an exciting time to be a transfer pricing practitioner.
