Amsterdam office wins the Gouden Zandloper CSR award
29 Mar 2019
The Simmons & Simmons Amsterdam office has won the prestigious Gouden Zandloper for its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. The award was presented by Dutch Lawyer’s Magazine Advocatie as part of the annual ‘Gouden Zandloper’ award gala in Amsterdam.
The CSR initiatives the office has been involved in over the past year include, amongst others, its continued partnership with UNICEF, the ‘Doctors without Borders’ initiative and the firm’s involvement in ‘Pro Bono Connect’. However, the jury explicitly praised the initiative of Paul Tjiam and Lotte Cuijpers who stole the show with their ‘Dress for Success’ project which provides a place for lawyers to donate their second-hand business attire. The clothes can then be picked up by people who are out of work to help them into a job.
On giving the award, the Jury mentioned that ‘it is commendable for an internationally orientated office to take a local initiative’. Paul and Lotte were able to give an interview for the next edition of Advocatie, in which Paul discussed how the campaign grew from a meeting with the non-profit organisation, Dress For Success, to collecting large amounts of business attire and creating a container in the business district in Amsterdam for the clothes to be handed out, which is expected to be available in the coming months.
