Chanel acquires Orlebar Brown

Simmons & Simmons has advised Orlebar Brown (and certain selling shareholders) on the sale of its luxury men’s swim and resort wear brand, to Chanel.
A UK subsidiary of the eminent Paris based fashion group acquired all the shares in Orlebar Brown Limited on 25 September 2018.
Founded in 2007 by Adam Brown and former business partner Julia Simpson-Orlebar, Orlebar Brown pioneered the tailored approach to men’s beach and swim shorts. Orlebar Brown swim shorts have featured in James Bond film, Skyfall, and are the subject of various major collaborations including with brand ambassadors such as F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo. The brand’s high-profile customers include Leonardo DiCaprio, Jay-Z, Hugh Jackman, Tom Brady, Michael Fassbender and Roger Federer.
Following completion, Adam Brown will continue to lead the business as Creative Director, alongside CEO Paul Donoghue. The Orlebar Brown brand will sit under the wider Chanel umbrella and will complement Chanel’s existing luxury swimwear range for women, Eres.

The Simmons & Simmons team was led by corporate partner Patrick Graves and managing associate, Steph Featherstone. The transaction team included lawyers from across the firm, including international head of FinTech, Angus McLean, corporate tax partner, Nick Cronkshaw, and associates Zoe Arnautov, Tair Hussain, Seb Godolphin, Tom Brown, Sarah MacPherson and Eve Emery.
