12 Mar 2018
Simmons & Simmons has enhanced its M&A offering in Luxembourg with the arrival of a new partner. Thierry Somma joined the firm on 12 March from Hogan Lovells (Luxembourg) LLP, where he was a Counsel leading a team of five lawyers.
Thierry has over 12 years’ experience as a corporate lawyer in major law firms. He has worked on a variety of M&A transactions in Real Estate and PE investments for global clients from various industries and sectors. Thierry will lead the new corporate practice that has been incorporated to reinforce the strength of the Luxembourg office and our offering to clients in our core sectors.
His appointment will substantially assist Simmons & Simmons in its ambition to become one of the leading firms in Luxembourg.
Louis-Maël Cogis, Partner and Country Head commented: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Thierry Somma as our new corporate partner. His arrival will enhance our offering in Luxembourg and he will certainly be a tremendous support to our clients.”
Commenting on the Luxembourg market Thierry Somma said: “The challenge for Luxembourg practitioners and for the Luxembourg business centre is to be able to absorb new regulations and at the same time remain competitive and attractive to investors. I believe that with Luxembourg's capacity for adaptation and pragmatic mind-set the transition will be a success.
“I am of the opinion that recent economic and political events have created opportunities for Luxembourg, and we see more and more players investing here. The UK’s decision to leave the EU in particular has put the spotlight on Luxembourg as an alternative home for financial companies looking to maintain their rights to market access.”
Simmons & Simmons established its Luxembourg office in 2015 to service the requirements of its clients in the Asset Management & Investment Funds and Financial Institutions sectors.
