Firm promotes twelve to partnership in 2017

International law firm Simmons & Simmons has today announced the promotion of twelve lawyers to partner* across its network. The promotions are effective as of 01 May 2017.

Commenting on the promotions, Simmons & Simmons’ Senior Partner Colin Passmore, said: ‘‘I am really pleased to welcome this ambitious, committed and collegiate group of new partners. The firm and its clients will benefit from the expertise they offer across their specialisms as we continue to build on our strengths.”

The new partners are:

Eucharia Bragg – London, Capital Markets
Eucharia’s practice covers a wide range of structured capital markets products, encompassing securities, derivatives and related collateral arrangements, repos and securities lending. In particular, Eucharia has many years’ experience acting on repackagings and other structured credit products. Eucharia joined Simmons & Simmons in 2004 and qualified as a solicitor in 2006. During her time at the firm, she has been seconded to major investment banks on four occasions and has worked in our Hong Kong office.

Lawrence Brown – London, Information, Communications & Technology
Lawrence has a particular focus on advising on major technology and outsourcing projects, frequently in regulated sectors. He also has significant experience of advising clients on international data protection and communications law regulatory projects and regularly speaks and publishes on a range of topics. Lawrence joined Simmons & Simmons as a trainee, qualified in 2005 and has twice worked on secondment at major banks.

Lucian Firth – London, Financial Services
Lucian provides specialist advice to asset managers in relation to investment funds, including structuring hedge funds and managed accounts, and in relation to derivatives regulation, prime brokerage, and other trading agreements. Lucian joined Simmons & Simmons in 2006 having previously worked in a US investment bank. He has completed a number of client secondments and also spent a number of years working in our Paris office.

Andrew Hutchinson – London, Intellectual Property
Andrew is a patent litigator with a focus on the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, supported by his technical background having studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge. Andrew has advised life sciences companies in disputes involving patent and regulatory issues (including supplemental protection certificates) in cases before the UK and European Courts, on many occasions with cross-border elements, and works collaboratively with the firm’s European patents network. He joined Simmons & Simmons in 2010.

Mattie de Koning – Amsterdam, Intellectual Property
Mattie specialises in intellectual property law with a strong focus on patents and technology. He advises and litigates on behalf of clients across various sectors, and particularly life sciences and TMT. Mattie lectures and publishes regularly on patent law and intellectual property and holds a masters degree in chemical technology. He joined the firm in 2011.

Darren Meale – London, Intellectual Property
Darren’s intellectual property expertise is in trade marks, designs and copyright and he is a skilled litigator, brands manager and advisor. His clients are drawn from various sectors with an emphasis on TMT, finance and FinTech. Darren also sits as Deputy District Judge in the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC) and the County Court. Last year, he created Simmons & Simmons Translator, a unique software tool to help clients deal with aspects of 2016’s EU trade mark law reform. He joined Simmons & Simmons in 2013.

Raza Rizvi – Dubai, Corporate & Commercial
Raza leads the firm’s ICT and Intellectual Property team in the Middle East. Raza qualified and practised in London, and has been based in the Middle East for the past 10 years providing specialist commercial, regulatory and transactional advice to clients in the TMT and life sciences sectors. He advises businesses that are rich in technology, data and IP (including FinTech) across the Middle East and Africa. Raza joined Simmons & Simmons in 2007 and has been on several senior-level client secondments.

Jingyuan Shi – Hong Kong, Corporate & Commercial
Jingyuan is a PRC qualified lawyer and a practising solicitor in England and Wales who focuses her practice on private equity and venture capital transactions in the TMT sector. She works primarily for international and Chinese TMT companies, and strategic and financial investors in the TMT sector. Her work encompasses a broad range including cross-border investments, start-ups’ financing, regulatory compliance (data protection and competition), and intellectual property. Jingyuan received an LLM with Distinction from London School of Economics (specialising in IT and IP law). She joined Simmons & Simmons in 2011.

Juan Sosa Pons-Sorolla – Madrid, Tax
Juan leads the tax practice in Madrid and has broad experience in international tax planning, M&A and property taxation, including cross-border distressed debt and real estate transactions. He has extensive experience in tax and regulatory matters relating to financial services, as well as capital markets taxation, and he regularly advises asset managers on tax litigation matters. He joined Simmons & Simmons in 2000.

Matthias Wagner – Frankfurt, Real Estate
Matthias is a lawyer and certified specialist in tenancy law who advises clients on all issues of property law. His practice covers real estate acquisitions, sales and project development, property related dispute resolution and arbitration. He also has wide experiences in commercial tenancy and agency law. He frequently represents both landlords and tenants in complex lease agreement negotiations. Matthias has lectured on tenancy and property law. He joined Simmons & Simmons in 2012.

Catherine Weeks – London, Financial Services
Catherine advises a range of UK investment managers on their regulatory obligations. She also specialises on the establishment and distribution of open-ended investment funds, particularly UCITS and on a broad range of investment fund matters. Catherine leads navigator: registrations – a cost-effective, reliable and user friendly service to manage and maintain cross border registrations and also manages the firm’s specialist KIID production facility. She joined Simmons & Simmons in 2008.

Felix Zimmermann – London, Commercial Litigation
Felix specialises in defending professional negligence claims against insurance brokers, construction professionals, accountants and solicitors; and has a particular interest in claims against lawyers arising out of complex conveyancing transactions. He also specialises in insurance disputes and regularly advises in relation to coverage issues under professional indemnity, D&O policies and reinsurance treaties. Felix joined Simmons & Simmons in 2011.
