  • acting for this leading luxury goods company in the enforcement and protection of its trade mark rights in Hong Kong and China. In particular, filing a number of oppositions for the client at the PRC Trade Marks Office in order to prevent the registration of objectionable marks in a range of classes.

Aspinal of London

  • assisting this distinctive leather goods retailer in protecting its designs and confidential information.

Bacardi-Martini Group

  • advising extensively in connection with the protection of its portfolio of world famous brands of alcoholic beverages including BACARDI rum, MARTINI vermouth, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE gin and DEWAR’s whisky in many countries of the world.

Bayer Healthcare/Bayer Schering Pharma

  • acting in relation to various patent litigation proceedings internationally.

Becton Dickinson and Company

  • advising this medical equipment and pharmaceutical products company on the licensing of its PRC trade mark portfolio.

  • managing the trade mark portfolio of the UK’s leading outsourcing company and advising on a range of related issues.

  • advising in relation to trade mark management matters in Europe.

Confidential clients

  • assisting several clients to react urgently when software and data have been stolen or misused by former staff, including by obtaining a range of interim injunctive measures.

Conor Medsystems Inc

  • advised in the successful patent revocation action, and appeal, against Angiotech Pharmaceuticals Inc relating to medical devices (settled before House of Lords appeal).

CoreValve

  • advised in patent validity and infringement litigation against Edwards Life Sciences relating to catheter-delivered heart valve technology.

DivX Inc

  • advised in its pan-European border detention and anti-counterfeiting programme, preventing unlicensed product from entering the European market.

Eli Lilly

  • representing Eli Lilly in the conduct of its UK litigation concerning olanzapine and the coordination of its olanzapine litigation in Europe, obtaining an unprecedented judgment from the English Patents Court in July 2011.

English National Ballet

  •  acting for one of the world’s leading ballet companies on a pro bono basis.

Ferag/Spomax/others

  • acted in several successful patent actions concerning mechanical engineering such as paper trimming machinery, grain roller mills, roofing technology and agricultural machinery.

Genmab

  • acted on the US$2.1bn licensing deal with GlaxoSmithKline for the exclusive global co-development and commercialisation of Genmab’s fully human monoclonal antibody. This is one of the largest licensing deals involving the life sciences sector in the world to date.

GlaxoSmithKline

  • advised on the establishment of a multi million dollar R&D centre in China.

Harley Davidson 

  • advised this well known company in protection against counterfeiting, grey market goods and dilution of the exclusivity and distinctiveness of its brand.

Her Majesty’s Government

  • advised on the establishment of the UK’s Energy Technologies Institute, a £1.1bn PPP including some of the world’s leading energy companies.

HFC (part of the HSBC group)

  • managing this banking client's extensive portfolio of trade marks and domain names and advising in connection with various related trade mark and domain name issues.

HMV

  • advised on the IP issues in the development with Microsoft of HMV’s online jukebox which allows HMV customers to find, buy, enjoy and manage their music online.

Hugo Boss

  • assisting in the protection of its famous stable of brands, such as BOSS, HUGO and BALDESSARINI against counterfeiting, importation of grey goods and the dilution of the exclusivity and distinctiveness of its brand.

International Cricket Council

  • advising extensively in connection with various licensing agreements in relation to logos in connection with the clients' events and international trade mark registration services.

Kraft Foods

  • successfully acting in relation to various patent, trade mark and copyright matters.

Lacoste

  • advising in relation to their anti-counterfeiting campaign in Hong Kong and China. We also handle Lacoste’s trade mark and design prosecution in Hong Kong concerning the “crocodile” device.

LEO Pharma

  • successfully acting on patent litigation proceedings relating to LEO's patent for a new crystal form of vitamin D (at first instance and on appeal), including obtaining an interim injunction (upheld on appeal).

Lundbeck

  • successfully advised in the appeal to the House of Lords in the Escitalopram case, a case currently being litigated in many countries.

Major pharmaceutical company

  • advising on non-infringement and revocation claims made by generics company in relation to a portfolio of patents protecting a blockbuster chemotherapy drug.

Major telecoms manufacturers

  • advised on patent infringement and essentially issues relating to 2G/3G mobile phone technology including in UK court proceedings, licensing of essential IPR on FRAND terms and joint ownership of IPR.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc

  • advising in connection with Company Names Adjudication actions and in relation to IP rights generally and in particular in connection with the JAMES BOND suite of marks.

MTV Networks

  • advising in relation to trade mark matters including in relation to the recovery of domain name for Comedy Central.

NTT DoCoMo Inc

  • advising this major Japanese mobile telecommunications client in relation to a range of trade mark issues on an international basis.

Reebok International Ltd

  • advising this major international sportswear brand on a range of trade mark matters and connected issues, including anti-counterfeiting, parallel imports, clearance and protection of trade marks and advertising and promotional issues.

Samsung

  • acting for Samsung in a lead and coordinating role in respect of the EU design right and patent issues in their dispute against Apple - the most high profile IP dispute currently taking place in the world between two of the world's largest sellers of consumer electronics. Simmons & Simmons are coordinating the patent and design actions in the EU

SanDisk

  • advised, on a variety of issues, including copyright levies, patent litigation and trade mark issues relating to Flash memory data storage products.

Sealed Air Corporation

  • advised Sealed Air Corporation on the divestiture of its subsidiary Diversey GK, the market leading provider of cleaning, sanitation and hygiene products and solutions in Japan, to funds. This involved the transfer and licensing of the IP subsisting in several thousand products sold by Diversey GK.

The Coca-Cola Company

  • advising extensively in relation to trade mark clearance, infringement and disputes, anti-counterfeiting and parallel imports.

Theravance Inc

  • advising in connection with international trade mark clearance and handling registration of new pharmaceutical product brand names and promotional messages internationally.

Virgin Media

  • advised in its high profile victory in the English High Court against Gemstar TV-Guide International, the patent licensing/assertion company in the field of Electronic Programme Guides (EPGs).

Watson Wyatt

  • advising on their international requirements in trade mark matters, including in relation to new brand clearance, applications for CTMs and resolving conflicts with third party brands.

Wipro Limited

  • representing this leading provider of integrated business, technology and process solutions in appeal court proceedings and successful settlement negotiations arising out of a trade mark dispute in Germany.

WL Gore & Associates Limited

  • advising on various trade mark prosecutions and anti-counterfeiting in a number of countries.

We advise on all aspects of clearance, filing, acquisition strategies and domain name protection and enforcement. David Stone in London is a domain name disputes arbitrator of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
