Julian Taylor's practice primarily involves advising leading financial institutions across a range of human resources issues, both contentious and non-contentious.
He is ranked in band 1 by Chambers & Partners and as a “leading individual” by Legal 500. He is described by Chambers & Partners UK 2018 as “absolutely terrific" and "he provides Rolls-Royce service and his judgement is spot-on". He is widely praised by sources as "a consummate business lawyer", "very impressive, clever and at the top of his game"and "if you have him on the other side, you sit up".
Julian works with many investment banks and asset managers. He advises on the full range of employment law issues, including advising on the strategic issues associated with reorganisations and restructuring and employee relations challenges. He has extensive experience of High Court and Tribunal litigation on a wide range of employment and general commercial matters, both during his five years as a Barrister and since joining Simmons & Simmons.
Julian is the UK and International Practice Group Head of Employment.

- advising various financial services firms and institutions on issues relating to the Senior Managers Regime (and its extension)
- acting for Moody’s on the employment issues relating to its acquisition of Bureau van Dijk
- defending a whistleblowing claim brought against an asset manager.
Julian was called to the Bar in 1994. Prior to joining Simmons & Simmons in 1999 he was in independent practice, specialising in employment law. He subsequently qualified as a solicitor and became a partner in 2003.
Julian was in the Financial Times inaugural “Power Part Time” list of the top 50 UK leaders working on a part-time basis (he usually does not work on Wednesday afternoons, but can always be contacted if necessary).
