General Experience

James is a partner in our banking team in London and has over 30 years’ experience as a finance lawyer at Simmons & Simmons. He has worked in our banking, capital markets and securitisation teams and advises financial institutions, borrowers and other transaction counterparties on a wide variety of loan, capital markets, hedging and other financial and treasury transactions and matters. He also advises on regulatory matters relating to peer to peer lending, ring fencing, recovery and resolution planning and the bank stabilisation regime.

  • advising a Canadian energy company on the proposed structure of its security arrangements for its European Group
  • advising a UK retail bank in relation to the proposed transfer of various portfolios of loans within the Bank Group
  • advising a US investment bank in relation to various loans to high net worth investors
  • advising a financial adviser in relation to the cash confirmation aspects of an acquisition finance facility for the purpose of the proposed takeover of a company in the gaming sector
  • advising peer to peer lenders in relation to various aspects of their regulation and other loan documentation

  • advising financial institutions, originators, trustees and others in relation to a wide variety of securitisation transactions involving many different types of assets classes and structures
  • advising corporate trustees and security agents in relation to loan and capital markets transactions.
James joined the firm in 1984 and qualified into the Banking Group in 1986. He became a partner in 1992 and was head of the banking Group for seven years.
